about

Born in Hainan, the southern end of China, Guzz blends his exploration and love for traditional Asian music into the full-length album An Elephant in the Jungle. With diverse samples and signature sounds, he takes us on a virtual trip in the wild of Southeast Asia – walking past giant tropical plants, catching a glimpse of an elephant sipping water beside a green pond.

“Cloud Forest” guides the way into this mysterious jungle; from the beautiful Laotian and Indian samples walks out Vahana of Hindu gods - “An Elephant in the Jungle”; straying into the Koh Ker temple, “Temple Encounter” is getting lost in the ancient riddles; man, woman, nature coexist here as an entire body, as in “Symbiosis pt.1”and “Symbiosis pt.2”. The dramatic “Fengxia” and misted “6: 30 A.M.” are traces of Hainan’s local culture and art. With the admiration for Seediq Bale - warriors of the rainbow, “The Rainbow Bridge” and “Raining Fire” sing anthem for the brave aborigines living in the mountains of Taiwan.

Dance music originated from tribes and jungles at the dawn of man. This time, the city-based club sound meets its exotic relatives, embracing the humidity and spirits of the rainforest. Man and nature, cities and woods, history and future reconcile in the temperate oriental philosophy. Gaps between genres blurred, An Elephant in the Jungle is the conceptual flux of existence and void.
